June 27, 2017 10:15 AM

My heart has been bleeding for your entire family as it has been for Cory since the day I watched him testify. What an exceptional and brave soul...
I have wanted to reach out to you, but I always feared my grief would be overwhelming and I would do more harm than good. I never imagined we would be sharing this grief as well. I am so sorry Baker wasn't stopped long before he ever reached your area. GOD (and the church) knows there were plenty of opportunities to stop his reign of abuse.
I would very much like to meet you somewhere, even if I need to drive back to your area. I was not made aware of the last hearing, or I most certainly would have been there. I'm praying the judge doesn't buy the garbage their attorneys put forth and the case is not dismissed. I'm not sure what I'll do if it is. I don't think I can bear it.

Please feel free to contact me any time...day or night ANY TIME. Please know that I will never stop being a voice for our sons...

Bernie and Cindy, I am shocked and sad to hear of the passing of Corey. I can remember meeting Corey as he was visiting my father (Sam Paonessa Sr.) at Conemaugh when my dad was ill. I have heard countless stories of your wonderful boys through my parent's eyes when they were living across the yard from you. The Leech family were like angels to my elderly parents, helping them with anything they needed from cutting the lawn to shoveling the snow without ever being asked. My sympathies go out to you and all of the Leech family, I'm sure my parents would be sickened and saddened over the passing of your son. May Corey be in peace now in God's loving hands.

We understand, with grieving hearts, what it is to lose a child, especially so tragically.
Know that Corey is now with our Lord and no longer in emotional pain.
Look back on Corey's life and the positive times. A wise man once told me "Do not mourn the absence of the flame, but, instead, celebrate how brightly it glowed"
Celebrate Corey for the man that he was; his smile, his laugh, his love for his family.
God bless all of you. We will continue to pray for the entire family, that you may find the peace that passes all understanding.

Father God, be close to Corey's family through this sad time of loss. Help them treasure the happy times they shared with this beautiful soul. Love them through their tears and grief. Corey endured so much during his short span on earth, and You know all about the many years he was haunted by the actions of a person who should have been trustworthy. Corey's struggles are over...accept him into Your Kingdom of love, togetherness and belonging where painful memories on earth are forgotten forever in Your amazing presence. Let the courage Corey showed in court against the evil predator be a part of his legacy to offer hope to those who have suffered the same abuse. Corey's life was not in vain...you will avenge those who prey on the innocent. Your will be done. In the Name above all names...Jesus Christ. Amen.

I did not know Corey. I graduated BMHS in 1995. The predator in question, I believe, I knew, and I am shocked and terribly upset. With all these headlines, I am sure I did know some of his victims and I am sick about it. The headlines and timelines line up with me wondering "Oh my gosh, I wonder if I knew any of those boys". I feel helpless. I wish I could have done something. God bless Corey, I will be praying for him every day.

Our family is so saddened by the loss of Corey. Christie had the good fortune to attend 8 years at OMOS with him. He was a polite, well-raised and kind young man. We hope that those who did not protect our children recognize and learn how many lives these decisions adversely impacted. Also, that we all may be educated to recognize the potential signs of preditors. Finally, your family should be commended for the honest (and heart-wrenching) obituary of your beloved son and brother. May God bless each of you.

I didn't know Corey or your family but in a way I feel I do. I look at his beautiful picture and see a handsome young man who had so much to live for if only he could get past the hurdle in life called addiction. My heart goes out to your family as I too know the sadness of losing someone to addiction. April 6th was a year ago I lost my sweet nephew, 28 years old, to addiction. I pray that God gives your family comfort and peace during this sad time. It's so hard to go thru but please know his spirit lives on around you. If you sit and listen, close your eyes and wait you will feel his spirit around you, comforting you, and letting you know he is ok now. He is free!

Dear Leech family, As I sit here and read Corey's remembrances, I know he and my son Michael are angels in God's loving arms. He passed in October. My son too was tortured by his flashbacks to being abused. He would go to church to find his footing. I know he believed and held strong to that faith, but the anxiety was too much. Your son walks with mine comforting others and intervening as only an angel can. Please know you have someone who understands your pain. This lost child club is harsh, but believe he is now is able to look into His Heavenly Fathers eyes and know the purpose by which he endured what he did. My son never got to bring his perpetrator to justice. The statute of limitations ran out. I applaude his courage and will be here even just to listen. Be Blessed. I will be praying for you in the days to come.

I wish that there were words to express my feelings. I remember seeing your beautiful family in church and at other local events over the years....such a beautiful family -- always polite and happy. Corey sounds like an unbelievably wonderful young man and my heart breaks for the burden that he carried for so many years. His willingness to speak up says volumes about the kind of man that he was and the strong family that supported him. Know that your Johnstown family is strong in our support of all of you. May Corey's spirit and light shine through eternity and bring comfort during these difficult days.

I am saddened to read of this young man's personal tragedy and his subsequent death! Shame on those men who have preyed on children for their own gratification. Men who pretended to be trusted. These actions are hated by our Creator and soon he will bring an end to ALL wickedness. Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." The former wicked people will also pass away and peace will come to the earth at last. The meek will inherit the earth, just as Jesus stated. I am so sorry for your great loss. The future will be beautiful.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the honor of getting to know Corey along with many of his brothers during my years working the Parochial league. He was a bright, respectful and caring young man and it was a pleasure getting to know him. My prayers are with your family during these very difficult times. God Bless You

My deepest sympathy to you all. My son, Tony, went to the Mount with Corey. What a wonderful friend he was to Tony from that time on. I can still remember him bringing the largest cookie tray I had ever seen to our house for Christmas!! I said Corey, with your big family, I'm sure you could use these at home. He said, you wouldn't believe how much my Mom bakes!! He had a smile that could light up a room! I am so very, very sorry.

My heart just broke when I read Corey's story. I am so deeply saddened to know the suffering Corey endured for so many years. I remember him as a happy joyful four year old in my clsssroom at West Side School. I can still see his beautiful infectious smile. I am so very sorry Corey's life was cut short because of the evil actions of someone he trusted. He was so brave to face this nightmare and raise his voice to help others. Corey is a true hero who will always be remembered and honored. I send my heartfelt prayers and love to the entire Leech family. Please contact me if there is anything I can possibly do to help you during this most difficult time.
With deepest sympathy and love,
Lynn Berkebile

My deepest sympathies to Corey's family. Here is our memory of Corey; Our daughter was born at 27 weeks in Johnstown's RICN where Corey was in training with another nurse. He took great care of our baby, and we loved seeing his name on the board of her little room. He helped my husband hold our tiny 1lb baby. We were there for 60 days, and we were very fond of him! He was an amazing nurse, and he loved those tiny babies! I will be praying for your family!

my deepest sympathy to the entire Leech family. Being a victim of clergy abuse myself I know well the pain that Corey felt and lived with. I appreciate his strength and valor in speaking out to help others. May he rest peacefully.

While I didn't know Corey, I know what he went through. Living with the trauma of another's actions against ones innocence is something that scars us forever. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to you, all your loved ones and those who loved him. My prayer is that the door will be open and light will be shed on this most heinous crime against children.

My heart breaks. My condolences to his family. He is one of the true heroes because he was willing to stand up and testify against this horror. I suspect many children will not be abused because of his action. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Leech family and the many children (young and old) who had the honor of being cured, loved, protected, and served by Corey Leech. He truly lived the admonition, "Unless you become like of one of these little children, you cannot enter the Kingdom." Corey has earned that special place prepared for him. May he rest in the peace he sought throughout his life.
